As many of you are aware, the President’s budget request for FY 2019 has proposed to eliminate funding for CSFP. Obviously, this is the first step in a long process of funding the federal government in FY 2019 so we have a lot of work to do in the weeks and months ahead of us. The NCSFPA Board of Directors will be putting an action plan together with a specific message that we will share with everyone after our board conference call tomorrow. Contacting your members of Congress will be critical in order to reject the administration’s proposal and to secure funding for CSFP at an appropriate level next year. There are other actions that we will recommend in our follow up email.
In the immediate future you may want to attend the Food Research & Action Center National Anti-Hunger and Policy Conference which begins on February 25th and runs through February 27th. Anti-Hunger advocates from across the country will be there and Tuesday, February 27th will be advocacy day which gives you a chance to meet with your Congressional offices. We recommend attending this conference especially in view of yesterday’s news. Here is a link to registration and more information on the conference: http://www.antihungerpolicyconference.org/registration/.
We will be contacting you in the next few days with more information on what we will do in response to the proposed budget request for next year. If you have any questions or suggestions please contact either Frank Kubik at 313 494-4442 kubikf@focushope.edu or Barb Packett at 402 471-0189 barb.packett@nebraska.gov.
